The Best Five Shows & Movies We’ve Seen In The First Half Of 2025

First of all, we have been slacking!! No blog posts in a few months. Whoops! But things have been crazy with rewrites and getting things prepared for festivals.

This hasn’t stopped us from watching LOTS of TV shows and movies, though. And we thought it would be fun to share our favorites and maybe, just maybe, give you a rec!

So without further ado. Here we go - our five favorite shows & movies!

*** NOTE *** Not all of these shows and movies actually came out in 2025.

YOUR LUCKY DAY

This banger came out in 2023 and was written and directed by Dan Brown. One of the last films featuring Angus Cloud (RIP), this is a story of a man who has the winning lottery ticket and finds out late at night in a seedy gas station in front of… some questionable people. This story takes place over just a few hours which we really liked, and is definitely a psychological thriller you should check out on Netflix!

DROP

Starring Meghann Fahy (she’ll appear on this list three times!) and Brandon Sklenar, this is a MUST WATCH film that ALSO takes place throughout just a few hours. We get to know our main character on her first blind date in many years and things go VERY awry when she arrives at a swanky bar and restaurant. This one is legit “edge of seat” and full of mystery and intrigue as she tries to protect her family and loved ones.

THUNDERBOLTS

One of the more recent Marvel releases, this film features an unlikely team of anti-hero’s that band together to confront not only corrupt politics, but also their darkest past deeds. Florence Pugh, Lewis Pullman, David Harbour and Sebastian Stan are AWESOME in one of, if not, Marvel’s best movies.

YOU, ME & HER

Power couple Selina Ringel (Writer/Actress) & Dan Levy Dagerman (Director) teamed up to create this fun, touching story of a modern marriage, and how sexual communication can make all the difference. Extremely funny and heartwarming, we definitely loved this one. It’s on Prime Video, amongst other places.

STRANGE DARLING

Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner star in this absolute BOSS of a movie. We don’t often love movies that skip all over the place in time, but this one is a STRONG EXCEPTION and GENIUS. Alyssa: “This was very Tarantino - the choice to NOT go in chronological order was probably the best way to tell this story.” Dave: “You’ll never guess the ending or what actually happened.” Bonus: semi inspired on a true story.

ZERO DAY

A thriller spread across a mini series, Zero Day touches on elements of family relationships and the very real possibility of a cyber attack. You can’t ever go wrong with Robert De Niro, and he portrays a former US president so dang well. Watch it on Netflix!

MILLION DOLLAR SECRET

Alyssa: “Oh my gosh, I’m obsessed with this show. It’s a reality game show and everyone is lying to each other about something.” One person has a million dollars, and the rest are in quest to capture it! Again - it’s on Netflix!

RUNNING POINT

Kate Hudson stars in this hilarious Netflix comedy about inheriting ownership of her families pro basketball team. There are scenes in this one that we STILL think about and start laughing, even weeks and weeks later. “Travis Bugg” makes us laugh in stiches. When you need a laugh, this is the one!

SIRENS

It’s funny, but more than that, it’s so unique. Meghann Fahy (appearence number two on our list) is AWESOME in this one as well as Milly Alcock and Julianne Moore. Alyssa: “It’s a dark comedy where you start laughing hard, and then realize you’re embarassed at yourself for laughing.” Dave: “Episodes four and five REALLY get you. An ending you won’t EVER predict.” This one is on Netflix, too, because apparenetly we only love shows on Netflix despite having subscriptions to ten services.

THE PERFECT COUPLE

Stop us if you’ve heard this before… but Meghann Fahy is in this one (although very briefly). A whodunit set on Nantucket Island over 4th of July weekend, this is a great drama based on a 2018 novel that has an array of stars such as Nicole Kidman, Dakota Fanning and Liev Schreiber. To the surprise of nobody, it’s on Netflix. =)
